Times Square had All That jazz on November 16th, when CHICAGO The Musical celebrated it’s 25th year on Broadway. The show’s performance included a special pre-show appearance from original stars, Bebe Neuwirth, Joel Gray, and James Naughton. The real show, however, began an hour before curtain in Times Square, where crowds were shocked and hundreds of cameras began recording as theatreMAMA’s 20 fosse dancers arrived on the scene to strike Fosse poses in full costume and eventually, summoning the Brooklyn United Marching Band. After striking poses in front of the CHICAGO Billboard, MAMA’s dancers led the marching band through the crowd to the red steps of TKTS. MAMA’s dancers took their places on the steps and revealed a special 8 foot banner reading “25 Years of Razzle Dazzle” while dancing to Brooklyn United’s echoing performance of “Empire State of Mind”. Then, the march to the Ambassador Theatre began as MAMA took over the streets! Pedestrians stopped to record the spectacle they saw marching down the center of Broadway and followed as the parade turned the corner of 49th Street, where red and white lights illuminated the entire block outside of the Ambassador Theatre. After 15 minutes of dancing to the music of Brooklyn United, our dancers took to the sidewalk under the marquee to greet red carpet guests like composer John Kander and lyricist Frank Ebb, Broadway stars Andrew Rannells, JJ Niemann, Amra-Faye Wright, and so many more. The night was a spectacle to be remembered by everyone from tourists to the original creators of CHICAGO The Musical.
