This month was historic for Chicago the Musical as Jinkx Monsoon became the first drag queen to ever portray the role of Mama Morton on Broadway. In an interview with CBS News New York’s Cindy Tsu, the RuPaul’s Drag Race winner praised Chicago’s production team for “taking huge steps in progressive inclusivity in their casting.” theatreMAMA is honored to be the Chicago Dance Mob Street Team promoting this monumental moment in stage history.
Our Chicago Dance Mob brings the show to life in Times Square, flexing Fosse-moves and engaging with patrons about Broadway’s record-breaking, second-longest running show. The Chicago Street Team is never without a fabulous Chicago flier, complete with discounts to the show, helpful information and, of course, gorgeous images of actors in the show.
“Ad campaigns featuring a human face help brands create personal connections with their audiences.”
Prominently featuring images of Chicago Cast members on our fliers was not an unmindful decision but rather a strategic one to encourage further connection with patrons. Did you know that 90% of the information absorbed by the brain is visual? Ad campaigns featuring a human face help brands create personal connections with their audiences. The research is clear, “The visual saliency of faces—that is, their ability to stand out and attract attention—might significantly increase the amount of attention that consumers pay to billboard advertising, for example,” found Guido et. al in the study Effects Of Face Images And Face Pareidolia On Consumers’ Responses To Print Advertising. These findings also speak to the success of using brand ambassadors — they are literally the human faces of marketing campaigns.
Congratulations to Jinkx and Chicago the Musical on this historic moment! We are having a blast using our fierce Chicago fliers to enhance our ability to connect with Times Square patrons and send them straight to the Ambassador Theatre to see Monsoon and this marvelous show.
