We had a blast promoting Blue Man Group at Intrepid Museum Kids Week! Brimming with Blue Man Group swag, a special discount code for tickets to see the show and an interactive arts and crafts station, kids and adults alike enjoyed stopping by our table.
Intrepid Kids Week is an annual event hosted by The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum to inspire kids of all ages to learn about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & math) through creative activities, captivating performances, engaging demonstrations, enticing exhibits and so much more. Patrons were even treated to a special surprise performance by Blue man Group.
This year, the week-long event was attended by over 4500 people daily – that’s over 30,000 guests!
Family events like Intrepid Kids Week create opportunities to interact with the community and reach a wide, multi-generational audience. Blue Man Group is a show that appeals to all ages, making Intrepid Kids Week an excellent platform to promote the show, said Erica Jacobson, Blue Man Group Marketing and Communications Manager. It’s an added bonus that the event takes place entirely indoors, making it a great family activity during the cold winter months, added Jacobson.
With STEAM as the catalyst for Intrepid Kids Week, our Blue Man Group Ambassador led children and their families through interactive arts and crafts, creating positive, shared learning-experiences associated with the long-running Off Broadway show. Attendees were also given the opportunity to scan a QR code to enter to win free tickets to the show in addition to receiving a flier for discount tickets and fun Blue Man Group swag.
Creating connections through experiential marketing at an event like Intrepid Kids Week fosters memorable experiences that continue long after the initial event. Attendees will remember the fun they had making Blue Man Group-inspired arts and crafts and the incredible surprise performance from the trio which, in turn, creates touch points to encourage further engagement with this high-energy show about three bald, blue men who will make you laugh while challenging your expectations of live performance, explained Jacobson.
With almost 40 participating organizations, Intrepid Kids Week was jam-packed with wonderful experiences for the entire family. We asked some of the participating organizations their reasons for regularly attending the annual event.
“The High Line hosts free hands-on workshops for families through the summer and we would love for our neighbors in NYC to know more about what we have to offer. The Intrepid is our neighbor institution on the West Side and we happen to have something in common as we are both decommissioned infrastructure that has been re-used as spaces for community, creativity and the preservation of history,” said Claudia Dishon, School and Family Programs Manager for the High Line.
Margie Turin of Columbia’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory explained, “We have been participating in Kid's Week for several years now as we find it is a great way to not only connect with families about science, but to bring it alive. We engage the youth with a hands-on science activity and then bring the adults into a conversation about our research.”
These answers echo Jacobson’s reasoning behind Blue Man Group’s attendance – to showcase the joyful and fascinating experience of Blue Man Group to local kids and adults alike and to connect with the community through STEAM and fun.
Representing Blue Man Group at Intrepid Kids Week was an incredible experience! The experience may have ended last weekend, but the memories will last long after. We are looking forward to being event marketing partners at more events like this in the future, and hope to be back at the Intrepid this time next year creating wonderful community connections and encouraging STEAM while promoting outstanding NYC experiences like Blue Man Group.
