Did you see this team at Chicago Pride???
theatreMAMA returned to Chicago this past weekend for the first time in over two years with not one, but two teams of ambassadors: Blue Man Group and Prince: The Immersive Experience. While MAMA has continuously promoted the musical “Chicago'' since 2009, we’ve been away from the city of Chicago for too long, and could not wait to return.
True or False: theatreMAMA and WALDO Make a Great Pair
MAMA's ambassadors set out on a mission with WALDO for a special social media promotion, asking 'True or False' questions to pedestrians and tourists.
WALDO Champions Random Acts of Kindness Day in New York City
“If you’re reading this, I hope you have the best day”
“You are beautiful, inside and out”
“You add significant value to this life”
These positive affirmations are just three of the many phrases that made it into the hands of New York City pedestrians on February 17th – Random Acts of Kindness Day.
Random Acts of Kindness Day 2022 started out with a randomly kind gift of Mother Nature, who gifted NYC with the warmest weather since the year began, at a comfortable temperature of 63 degrees and sunny skies. While city-goers enjoyed the beautiful day, nearly 250 lucky strangers were handed cards from WALDO, passed on by theatreMAMA’s ambassadors. On one side, the card read, “Pass this on to a stranger”. Upon turning the note over, the curious recipients read messages like the ones above, and more (see full list of positive affirmations below).
Rather than asking for the location of the familiar name, many asked “What’s WALDO”. WALDO is the future of high-quality eye care products, offering affordable daily contact lenses delivered right to your door. WALDO “believes in the power of positive vision” and theatreMAMA pushed that mission even further by sending out a team of ambassadors all around New York City to execute an experiential marketing campaign of kindness on the day where arbitrary altruism is most encouraged.
theatreMAMA’s objective was simple: Utilize our street team ambassadors to distribute WALDO’s positive affirmation cards all around New York City. MAMAs street team impacted busy New Yorkers on their way to work, quiet patrons waiting for the train, and tourists enjoying the sights of the city, while the MAMA video team, led by Chelsea Logan, captured reactions from afar. The end goal was to compile the reactions into a short video for social media to showcase WALDO’s commitment to positive vision.
“WALDO’s branding is very, for lack of a better word, visionary. WALDO is optimistic, so distributing kindness worked well for their brand.” Logan commented.
A MAMA street team ambassador shared, “We don’t see a lot of kindness, and WALDO is a contact lens company! It’s important that we see people being kind, and WALDO’s product and approach worked perfectly in for the occasion.”

MAMA launches Deliverect into New York Restaurants
theatreMAMA is famous for creating a lasting experiential impression on your target client. For Broadway musicals and live entertainment, MAMA brings the show to the street with our network of professional performers, ambassadors, and attention-grabbing costume design, creating an irresistible desire to learn more in those who pass by.
MAMA began 2022 with something completely new. We sent our team of MAMA ambassadors to nearly 300 restaurants in some of New York City’s most densely populated food blocks.
“Why?...”
Our goal was to launch Deliverect into as many restaurants in NYC with an experiential marketing promotion. We needed to find the best way to make an impact on as many restaurants as possible in only six days. New York City has nearly 27,000 restaurants... It’s safe to say that it’s impossible to make a visit to each and every New York City restaurant, unless maybe you are a food critic with the world’s deepest stomach capacity. So, we took out a map and started drawing… literally. New Yorkers know that the most densely populated restaurant areas include Hell's Kitchen, West Village, and Flatiron/Union Square area. We circled those, and set out on planning the ultimate restaurant-hop that MAMA’s team of well-trained Deliverect ambassadors would embark on.
Before the journey could begin, MAMA’s outreach team took a magnifying glass to the map and compiled a list of 300 total restaurants in our three high-density locations. We reached out to each one to gather contact information, prime hours of operation, and provided information about Deliverect. This worked. The information the target clients provided allowed MAMA to send ambassadors at the perfect time to engage in a relaxed conversation with the owner. Providing the owner with information before we stopped in ensured that Deliverect was on their mind before we were even there to show them.

The marketing adventure consisted of two groups of ambassadors: One team targeted the three original locations, and a second team that tackled locations not originally researched to maximize our outreach. This allowed us to also explore two different approaches: cold calls and follow-ups. Both were essential to the success of the experiential marketing promotion. MAMA’s well-trained ambassadors impressed NYC restaurant owners, as they were shocked by the versatile and user-friendly platform Deliverect had to offer. They quickly became infatuated with how it could improve the way they run their business. Due to our careful planning and efficient execution, MAMA’s ambassadors succeeded in bringing Deliverect to nearly all 300 restaurants in just six days.
The mission to impact all of New York City’s restaurants has just begun. theatreMAMA is excited to continue launching Deliverect into widespread use across the restaurant industry of NYC and beyond. Making an impression on 27,000 restaurants seems like an impossible feat. However, with expert planning, a team of well-trained ambassadors and over 16 years of experience in impacting the millions, MAMA delivers.

The Past Year for Us Here at MAMA | An end of the year review
Another year is in the books for theatreMAMA, and what a year to remember it was! We were fortunate enough to be able to bring back some of our iconic street teams, such as the Chicago Dance Mob and Rockettes Toy Soldiers, while introducing some new promotions such as Cirque’s Twas the Night Before, Friends the Musical Parody, and Jersey Boys. Of course, the ongoing pandemic continued to provide its own challenges, such as early show closings and performance cancellations. Buckle up, readers, as this year was one for the books!
CHICAGO 25TH ANNIVERSARY FLASH MOB - theatreMAMA’s Times Square Fosse Dancers
Times Square had All That jazz on November 16th, when CHICAGO The Musical celebrated its 25th year on Broadway. The show’s performance included a special pre-show appearance from original stars, Bebe Neuwirth, Joel Gray, and James Naughton. The real show, however, began an hour before curtain in Times Square. theatreMAMA, along with our amazing partners at NAMCO, Times Square Alliance, NYC&Co and Foresight Events collaborated to create a spectacle in Times Square to celebrate the historic day. Crowds were shocked and hundreds of cameras began recording as 20 member of theatreMAMA’s iconic Chicago Dance Mob Street Team arrived on the scene at 5:30pm to strike Fosse poses in full costume and eventually, summoning the Brooklyn United Marching Band. After striking poses in front of the CHICAGO Billboard, MAMA’s dancers led the marching band through the crowd to the red steps of TKTS. MAMA’s dancers took their places on the steps and revealed a special 8 foot banner reading “25 Years of Razzle Dazzle” while dancing to Brooklyn United’s echoing performance of “Empire State of Mind.” Then, the march to the Ambassador Theatre began as MAMA took over the streets! Pedestrians stopped to record the spectacle they saw marching down the center of Broadway and followed as the parade turned the corner of 49th Street, where red and white lights illuminated the entire block outside of the Ambassador Theatre. After 15 minutes of dancing to the music of Brooklyn United, our dancers took to the sidewalk under the marquee to greet red carpet guests like composer John Kander and lyricist Frank Ebb, Broadway stars Andrew Rannells, JJ Niemann, Amra-Faye Wright, and so many more. The night was a spectacle to be remembered by everyone from tourists to the original creators of CHICAGO The Musical.
MET OPERA CITY-WIDE STREET TEAM ACTIVATION
MAMA’s ambassadors were at the forefront of a historic city-wide activation for the Opening Night of Metropolitan Opera 2021-2022 Season. Not only was the opening a long awaited re-introduction to live opera after the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was the Met’s first performance of an opera by a Black Composer, Fire Shut Up In My Bones, composed by Terence Blanchard. The Met offered a new way to experience the historic Opening Night from outside the opera house with a simulcast in Times Square and Marcus Garvey Park’s Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Harlem. Both live stream viewings were free and open to the public.
A team of 24 MAMA brand ambassadors were active all day in multiple locations surrounding Times Square and Marcus Garvey Park sporting shirts with the opera’s popular quote, “Bend Don’t Break”. In addition to providing a team of approachable and arts-passionate ambassadors who distributed nearly 8,000 fliers and answered the questions of patrons and passing pedestrians, our social media team was on-site to capture the historic event. MAMA’s content team captured exciting moments in creative ways, such as a timelapse of the Times Square venue being assembled, photos and video footage of the massive billboard screen facing Duffy Square being tested, patrons entering the space, the red carpet, the energetic first applause at the sight of Conductor, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and photos of the interactions between the MAMA brand ambassadors and excited patrons. With the MAMA digital media team on site, we were able to provide real-time content for the Metropolitan Opera’s social media team to post on their social media channels immediately to showcase the excitement across the city that was building as curtain time approached.
Positive interactions between the residents of Harlem and MAMA ambassadors reinforced the import history being made by Fire Shut Up In My Bones. Upon sharing that the free viewing was the Met’s first performance of an opera by a Black composer, our team received responses like, “I’m a member of the MET and I’m so happy they are starting the season with an opera composed by Terence Blanchard. I’m a big fan and can’t wait to see it”, and an inspiring comment from the mother of a young Black musician, who brought her son to show him what’s possible if you keep practicing.
